To make a good amaretto sour, pour 1 1/2 ounces of amaretto liqueur, 1 ounce of simple syrup and 3/4 ounce of fresh lemon juice into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake it, and strain it into a glass with ice. Garnish the drink with an orange slice and cherry.
Another good amaretto sour recipe uses Prosecco served in sugar-rimmed glasses. To prepare the glasses, combine 1/4 cup of sugar with lemon and lime zests in a shallow bowl. Rub a lemon around the glass rims, and gently press the rims into the sugar. In a pitcher, combine 3/4 cup of Prosecco, 2 tablespoons of amaretto liqueur, lemon juice from 1/2 of a lemon and 2 tablespoons of chilled simple syrup. Pour it into the sugar-rimmed glasses over ice, and garnish the drink with lemon and lime slices.
A frothier amaretto sour recipe uses egg whites and bourbon and has a combination of sweet, sour and nutty flavors. Pour 1 1/2 ounces of amaretto liqueur, 3/4 ounce of cask-proof bourbon, 1 ounce of lemon juice, 1 teaspoon of simple syrup and 1/2 ounce of a beaten egg white into a shaker, and dry shake it. Add ice to the shaker, shake it again, and strain it into a glass over ice. Garnish the drink with a lemon peel and cherries.
