English Composition I is the basic composition course required at most colleges. English Composition I varies slightly from school to school, but the focus is usually on writing college-level papers using various modes of development, learning to use academic citation styles and research engines, and critical reading of arguments.
Also known as Freshman Composition or First Year Composition, most college students take English Composition I sometime in the first two semesters after college matriculation. Most four-year universities require a second English class focusing on literature or more in-depth research and composition. AP English Language and Composition or CLEP test passing scores can fulfill English Composition I requirements at many colleges.
