Are Dome Homes More Energy Efficient?

Monolithic dome homes are more energy efficient than traditional homes; this is due to their structural makeup. Dome homes are built with concrete on both the exterior and interior walls, and concrete aids insulation.

Insulation halts or slows the transfer that occurs as heat attempts to travel from one side of a wall to the other. Using concrete on both sides of a wall creates mass, and the interior wall stores heat instead of letting it escape. This tends to keeps indoor temperatures level and more comfortable, reducing the need to use an appliance for regulation, and reducing the amount of utility bills by as much as half.
