How Do You Clean a Leather Jacket?

To clean a leather jacket, swab the exterior with a sponge, let it dry, apply leather conditioner, vacuum the interior, wipe it with a sponge, apply fabric deodorizer and let it air dry. This two-hour process requires a sponge, water, soap, baking soda, leather conditioner, a vacuum and fabric deodorizer.

  1. Wipe the leather with a damp sponge

Wipe the exterior of the jacket with a soft sponge dipped in warm water and mild soap. Rub the sponge gently over the leather, rinse it, squeeze it out and wipe the leather to rinse it. Let the leather dry, and then apply leather conditioner according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  2. Vacuum the lining

Hang the jacket up and vacuum the lining. Inspect it for stains and unpleasant odors.

  3. Wipe the lining with a moist sponge

Wipe the lining with a sponge dipped in water, baking soda and mild soap. Rub stains vigorously but do not saturate the fabric. Rinse the sponge and blot the liner to remove traces of soap. Spray the liner with fabric deodorizer.

  4. Blot the lining with a cloth

Blot the lining with an absorbent cloth until it is almost dry, then leave the jacket in a well-ventilated area until the rest of the water evaporates.
