What Is a Chinchilla Persian?

A chinchilla Persian cat has a color pattern characterized by slight black tipping on each hair on the back, legs, flanks, head, ears and tail. The hairs are otherwise white, which gives the coat a sparkling appearance. The cat's undercoat is usually pure white.

Chinchilla Persians are shown in the Silver and Golden division of the Persian breed in shows sanctioned by the Cat Fanciers' Association. They are similar to cats with shaded silver coloring but are lighter colored as less of each hair is colored black. In South Africa, Persians with chinchilla coloring and five generations of pure chinchilla ancestry have been given official sanction as a new breed, the Chinchilla longhair, which is distinguished from the Persian by its color and its slightly longer nose.
