How Do You Do a Brazilian Wax at Home?

To do a Brazilian wax at home, prepare a clean working space, clean the waxing area, trim the hair and wax the hair in small sections. People with skin conditions or immune system conditions should avoid doing their own bikini waxes at home.

Brazilian waxing can be difficult, but at-home waxers can make the process easier by following some simple steps.

  1. Take a painkiller
  2. Brazilian waxing is usually painful. Waxers may find that a painkiller, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, can help keep some of the sting at bay.

  3. Prepare a working space
  4. Brazilian waxing can expose sensitive parts of the skin to germs, so it is important to work in a clean area. Clean a working area, lay out a clean towel and sterilize all waxing tools. Use a fresh stick to apply the wax.

  5. Take a shower
  6. Wash the bikini area in a lukewarm shower. Waxers may also want to exfoliate prior to waxing, as this can help the wax grip the hair.

  7. Heat the wax
  8. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to heat the wax.

  9. Trim the hair
  10. Trim the hair around the bikini area to around 1/4 inch thick. Wax may have trouble sticking to longer hair, which makes it more painful to remove.

  11. Apply the wax
  12. Apply a thin layer of wax to a small section of hair. Apply the wax in the same direction that the hair grows. Waxers using soft wax should apply a strip on top of the wax.

  13. Rip off the wax
  14. Let the wax cool. Use one hand to stretch the skin so that it is tight, as this helps reduce the pain. Use the other hand to rip off the hard wax or wax strip in the opposite direction that the hair grows.
