Asiana Airlines, one of the two major airline companies in South Korea, was founded in February 1988. As of 2014, the company had 85 aircraft in their fleet and operated 90 international and 12 domestic routes for commercial passenger flights.
Asiana Airlines flies to 75 different international cities in 23 different countries, and the company also operates 25 international cargo routes to 27 cities in 13 countries. In addition to flights within South Korea, the company offers numerous trans-Pacific flights to the United States, flights to Europe, mainland China and a number of other Asian countries. In total, Asiana Airlines operates approximately 260 flights per day and services approximately 17 million passengers annually. As of December 2014, Asiana Airlines has an average yearly sales revenue of more than $5.5 billion. The company has two main hubs, Gimpo International Airport and Incheon International Airport, both of which are located in South Korea's capital of Seoul.
Asiana Airlines has received numerous international awards and recognition, including five "Airline of the Year" awards from organizations such as Skytrax, Business Traveller, Global Traveller and Premier Traveller. In 2003, Asiana Airlines joined the Star Alliance, an organization that includes more than 25 airlines from across the world, including United, Swiss Air, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines and Turkish Airlines.
