The character of Zorro was first introduced by Johnston McCulley in a serialized story in the pulp magazine All-Story Weekly. Zorro was made famous by the 1920s film “The Mark of Zorro,” which led to the serial being published as a novel under the same name. McCulley, not realizing how popular Zorro was to become, revealed the identity of Zorro at the end of the book because he did not expect to write more Zorro stories.
