Ylenia Carrisi was a 23-year old Italian woman who disappeared under mysterious circumstances while visiting New Orleans, Louisiana in Jan. 1994. She was the eldest daughter of Italian singers/actors Albano Carrisi and Romana Power. Carrisi decided to take a break from her studies and travel the world. She began in South America and from there traveled to New Orleans where she disappeared. Carrisi was last seen in the French Quarter, the oldest neighborhood in the city of New Orleans.
Carrisi was born on Nov. 29th, 1970 in Rome, Italy and was studying at the University of London at the time of her disappearance, where she received the highest marks in her year. After her disappearance, New Orleans police claimed that a young woman matching Carrisi's features jumped into the Mississippi River, but Carrisi's parent dismissed the claim and thought their daughter was being held hostage.
Carrisi's strange disappearance caught the eyes of many New Orleans residents and also numerous Italian new media. Italian media outlets have suggested that Carrisi disappeared because of the prevalence of voodoo in the Louisiana region. Ylenia Carrisi has been missing for 21 years and 10 months, and upon her father's request was declared dead in Jan. 2013.
