The author Jane Yolen wrote "How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?" and the illustrations were created by Mark Teague. The book was published by Scholastic in 2000.
Jane Yolen found inspiration for this book through a friend who was having trouble getting her toddler son to sleep at night. After numerous revisions and the added whimsy of Mark Teague's illustrations, the book was published by Scholastic. Scholastic featured the book on the cover of its catalogue and created a poster and door hanger. MerryMakers created a plush toy companion and children's pajamas featuring the dinosaurs. In addition, this book has garnered Yolen the most honors, including Book of the Month Best Picture Book of 2000, a Nick Jr. Magazine pick for best book for kids ages 3 to 5 and one of the School Library Journals' Best Books of 2000, amongst many others.
