Who Were Some Cast Members of "Gilligan's Island"?

Bob Denver and Alan Hale Jr. were the lead actors in the "Gilligan's Island" television series. The supporting cast included Jim Backus, Natalie Schafer, Tina Louise, Russell Johnson and Dawn Wells.

Bob Denver played Gilligan, a bumbling first mate working a charter cruise on the S.S Minnow when a tropical storm strands the passengers and crew on an uncharted island. Bob Denver was known for his generosity to his fellow actors, fighting for equal credits for Dawn Wells and Russell Johnson. He played the Gilligan character several times after the original show, in "The New Adventures of Gilligan," "Gilligan's Planet," "The New Gidget," "Alf" and "Baywatch."

Alan Hale Jr. played Jonas Grumby, known as the Skipper. His portrayal combined the steady demeanor of the sea captain with over-the-top reactions to Gilligan's antics. Denver and Hale modeled their characters' relationship after Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy.

Jim Backus and Natalie Schafer played millionaire Thurston Howell III and his wife, Mrs. Lovey Howell. Jim Backus was already famous when the show aired for voicing the near-sighted cartoon character Mr. Magoo.

The rest of the cast included Tina Louise as B-actress and seductress, Ginger; Russell Johnson as the brainy castaway known as the Professor; and Dawn Wells as girl-next-door Marianne.
