In "The Good Wife," Julianna Marguiles plays the main character, Alicia Florrick, a lawyer whose husband, Peter Florrick, participated in a sex scandal and went to jail for political corruption. In the show's sixth season, Alicia decides to run for state's attorney, ultimately winning. Shortly after, she winds up in a voting fraud scandal and must resign. Chris Noth plays recurring character Peter Florrick, who is the governor of Illinois in season six. Throughout the season, he supports Alicia's bid for state's attorney, although somewhat reluctantly. At the end of the season he reveals his desire to run for vice president of the United States.
Alan Cumming plays Eli Gold, Peter's chief of staff. He convinces Alicia to run for state's attorney and becomes her campaign strategist. In season six, he works to keep Alicia's scandals from ruining her campaign and handle his outspoken daughter, Marissa, who becomes Alicia's personal assistant. Archie Panjabi plays Kalinda Sharma, a private investigator at Alicia's firm. She spends the season trying to help coworker Cary fight drug-trafficking charges and desperately falsifies evidence. When she gets caught, Kalinda turns in a drug kingpin to keep her boss safe and leaves Chicago for her own protection. Panjabi does not return for season seven.
