As of 2015, there have been eight Jesse Stone films: "Stone Cold," "Night Passage," "Death in Paradise," "Sea Change," "Thin Ice," "No Remorse," "Innocents Lost" and "Benefit of the Doubt." A new Jesse Stone film, "Lost in Paradise," is set to air on Hallmark in fall 2015.
The Jesse Stone films, which star Tom Selleck in the title role, are based on the main character in a series of detective novels created by Robert B. Parker. The story takes place in the fictitious town of Paradise, Massachusetts, where Stone is the chief of police. The storyline follows Jesse Stone through his cases with the police department, as well as his troubles with alcohol and his struggles with his personal life.
The first movie aired on CBS in 2005, with the eighth film having aired in 2012. While there are some deviations made for viewing, the movies follow the novels rather faithfully, with the creator citing that "Tom nails the character." Despite the fact that the final film had nearly 13 million viewers, CBS announced that it would not be ordering any additional films in the series. Nearly two years after the eighth film aired on CBS, a ninth film was ordered by Hallmark Mysteries & Movies.
