Walter Mercado is best known for hosting shows as an astrologer. Mercado started his own astronomy segment in 1970 on "El Show de Las 12." In addition to his role as an astrologer on television, Mercado has also worked as a director, actor, writer and dancer. Mercado acted in Puerto Rican telenovelas and also opened his own dramatic arts school called Walter Actors Studio 64.
Walter Mercado was born in 1932 and in his youth he was one of the most famous dancers in Puerto Rico. Mercado is easily recognizable by his colorful regalia and fancy robes. In 2010, Mercado changed his name to Shanti Ananda, which means "peace happiness." The Association of Latin Entertainment Critics of New York awarded Mercado the "Mr. Television" title. Mercado also won the "Senor Television" title at the 1972 Festival de Codazos.
Walter Mercado made headlines in 2015 for sharing an astrological analysis of U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump, in which he said that Trump's egocentrism and xenophobia would cause him to lose the race. Mercado has written and published books in several languages, and has also written horoscopes for El Nuevo Herald in Miami. Mercado has an estimated net worth of $5 million.
