"The Walking Dead" comic book series began in 2003, predating the premiere of the television series of the same name by seven years. The comic series became so popular that AMC partnered with the comic's writer and creator, Robert Kirkman, to produce a "The Walking Dead" television series in 2010.
Kirkman serves as both an executive producer and writer for the television adaptation of the comic. The television show loosely follows the comic's plotline. Both a critic and fan favorite, the comic book series won the Eisner Award for Best Continuing Series in 2010. Artist Tony Grimes illustrates the popular comics.
