As of 2015, VUDU does not offer free films through its service. The price of a film is based on a variety of factors. Renting a film costs a one-time fee of about 99 cents to $5.99. When renting films, a customer can watch the movie as many times as he likes during a 24-hour period. Purchased films are available to view forever and range from about $4.99 to $24.99.
Prices for renting and purchasing films can also vary depending on picture quality and available promotions. VUDU occasionally features independent films that are still playing in theaters and are thus usually priced higher than standard rentals. VUDU also offers customers TV shows for purchase by individual episodes or entire seasons.
Some Blu-ray discs and DVDs with UltraViolet include a code to convert a disc to a digital film on VUDU. However, the conversion costs a fee that ranges from about $2 to $5, depending on the selected digital video quality. Digital conversions can then be watched on a variety on VUDU-enabled devices, including certain smartphones and gaming consoles. UltraViolet and VUDU also keep a permanent record of all of a customer's movie purchases to help him build a secure digital movie collection.
