No Roku models require a computer for use, as of 2015. The Roku unit plugs in to a TV via a composite or HDMI cable and allows streaming video content via the home’s Internet connection directly to the TV.
Roku works with almost any broadband Internet connection. Roku recommends a minimum connection speed of 3.0 Mbps for optimal viewing of high-definition content or 1.5 Mbps for viewing standard-definition content.
There are no recurring fees for owning the Roku device, and there are many free channels available for streaming via the Roku. Owners can also subscribe to services such as Hulu and Netflix to watch streaming content via those services or pay for individual movies and other programming on demand.
