One unique plan for a small cottage resembles a lighthouse. The cottage's entire first floor holds a garage large enough for one car and a kayak. Upstairs is a sitting area, a kitchenette and a bathroom with a shower. The sitting area has a fold-out bed and one closet.
Another interesting small cottage plan features a 150-square-foot-cottage that is built in a shot-gun style and exclusively houses baths and showers. A wrap-around porch leads to the interior. The back of the cottage has two showers, two tubs and two water closets, as well as storage for towels. The back area also holds another large storage space that is accessible from the outside. Builders can optionally alter the plans for this cottage to create a built-in kitchenette and a small sleeping area.
A unique family cottage plan utilizes farm-style elements. A bit larger, the 794-square-foot cottage has enough space on the first floor for a bedroom with sliding barn doors, a small kitchen, a dining room, a family room and a full bath. The upstairs is accessible by a rolling ladder and has a bedroom with bunks in the slopes of the roof and built-in storage. The cottage has a small front stoop but no garage.
