Located in Fryeburg, Maine, the Fryeburg Fair features various farm animal shows including poultry shows, sheepdog trials and ox pulling shows, as well as competitions and live night entertainment. One distinctive feature of the fair is the annual parade, in which all prize animals and exhibitors are encouraged to participate.
The 2015 Fryeburg Fair features an Agricultural Exhibition Center open to entries from individuals and local farms willing to showcase their talents. The program includes gardening shows and arts and crafts exhibitions, as well as cooking and baking contests such as a blueberry dessert competition and a Rice Krispies contest.
The fair also includes a variety of strength-based competitions, including the traditional Woodmen's Field Day. The event typically takes place on the first Monday, and it's open to men and women from all over the United States who compete in wood-related events such as axe throwing, tree felling and buck sawing. There are also lighter competitions open to the public, such as a skillet-throwing contest.
Some of the fair's activities also include machines, such as the four-wheel drive truck pull or the 4x4 pull. The first night show, taking place on a Sunday, is always dedicated to the tractor pull, a tradition established in 1975. The 2015 edition of the tractor pull features two tracks and various types of tractors.
