Some of Tyler Perry's plays are "Madea Gets A Job," "Madea's Big Happy Family," "The Haves and the Have Nots," "I Can Do Bad All By Myself" and "Madea Goes to Jail." As of 2015, Perry has written 20 plays, of which many feature his character Madea.
Perry's first play, "I Know I've Been Changed," is an adaptation of letters he wrote to himself about his abusive relationship with his father. His first attempt to stage the play in Atlanta failed to bring in audiences. He tried again in 1998 and successfully attracted investors.
Many of Perry's plays have been turned into films, such as "Madea's Class Reunion," "Meet the Browns" and "Madea's Big Happy Family." Madea, an elderly woman, is typically performed by Perry.
