A privately owned Georgian broadcasting company, Rustavi 2 airs on its own channel. Rustavi 2 offers free-to-air terrestrial broadcasting and reaches around 85 percent of the country’s population. With the Turksat 3A satellite, the channel’s international broadcast reaches Europe, western Russia and the Middle East. The channel offers a variety of shows, including daily news, political talk shows, sports and popular entertainment.
Rustavi 2 is the first channel in Georgia to use digital hardware, go on satellite and become an associate member of the European Broadcasting Union. The broadcasting network sends analog signal through 41 terrestrial transmitters installed throughout the country. Rustavi 2 works with local cable operators in the country’s mountainous regions where transmitter signals may be unstable. The channel has television towers in areas such as Tbilisi, Kvareli, Bolnisi and Sioni.
Rustavi 2 helps other broadcasting companies and news agencies conduct live stand-up and play outs from its studio. The channel offers entertainment shows such as “Lucky Wheel,” “Make Us Laugh and Win,” “Georgia’s Got Talent,” “The Vano’s Show” and “Barley Street.” The show “P.S.” offers analysis and reports on political, social and cultural issues of the country. The news program “Courier” airs seven times daily, offering the latest national and international news.
