With a net worth of $79.2 billion, Bill Gates tops Forbes list of the richest people in the world. Gates amassed his fortune primarily through Microsoft, though as of 2015, he is in the process of selling off much of his stock in the company. Despite generous charitable donations, his money continues to grow through his own personal investment company, Cascade Investment LLC.
Second on the Forbes list for 2015 is Carlos Slim Helu and his family. The primary source of Selu's $77.1 billion net worth is telecommunications. Carlos Slim Helu is the honorary chairman of América Móvil, of which he and his six children own a 62 percent share.
Another American ranks third on the list. Warren Buffett has a net worth of $72.7 billion, acquired primarily through Berkshire Hathaway, a multinational conglomerate holding company headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska. Buffett is known for his acuity in making wise investments and his frugal economic practices. He continues to live in the home he bought in 1958 for $31,500.
The fourth richest person on the list is Amancio Ortega. With a net worth of $64.5 billion, Spain's Ortega is the world's richest retailer, making much of his money through his clothing store company Zara. The company began in 1975 with lingerie and bathrobes that Ortega and his wife made in their home.
