Timothy John Mowery and Darlene Renee Mowry are best known as the parents of twin daughters Tia and Tamera Mowery. Timothy, who is Caucasian, is of English ancestry, while Darlene's heritage is Afro-Bahamian.
Darlene's maiden name is Flowers, and the couple first met while attending high school together in Miami. Timothy and Darlene both served in the U.S. Army, and they both rose to the rank of sergeant. The couple was stationed at Coleman Kaserne in Hesse, Germany, when Tia and Tamera were born. The girls were born on July 6, 1978.
The family was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, in the late 1980s, when their daughters began entering talent shows and beauty pageants. They moved to California in 1990 so that the girls had the opportunity to take a serious shot at acting for a living. They found some small roles and parts in commercials before landing their first big hit, playing together as sisters in the show "Sister, Sister." Darlene managed the careers of her children while Timothy found a job with the Glendale police department.
Darlene and Timothy also have two sons, Tahj and Tavior. The family members are born-again Christians, and the family is quite close-knit.
