Theaters showing the Metropolitan Opera Live in HD include The Greenhills 16 in Nashville, Tennessee; Pavilions 15 in Denver, Colorado; CityWalk Stadium 19 in Studio City, California; and the Union Square Stadium 14 in New York, New York. These theaters are all part of the Regal Cinema Group.
As of 2015, Met Opera productions available for HD screening in theaters include "La Traviata" and "Aida," both by composer Giuseppe Verdi; "La Fille du Régiment" by composer Gaetano Donizetti; and "The Merry Widow" by Franz Lehár. The Met: Live in HD is made possible by private contributions.
"La Traviata" is one of the Met's most popular streamed performances. The tragic story unfolds as the main character, Alfredo Germont, risks everything for Violetta. This screening was originally performed on Saturday, April 14, 2012. This performance stars singing actress Natalie Dessay as Violetta and Matthew Polenzani as Alfredo Germont, and it is directed by Willy Decker.
"Aida," which set in Egypt, tells a rapturous tale of love and politics. The central character is Aida, an enslaved princess of Ethiopia, who falls in love with the Egyptian warrior Radamès. This production features Liudmyla Monastyrska as Aida and Roberto Alagna as Radamès. This performance was originally streamed on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012.
