The Kilcher family appears on the Discovery adventure reality show "Alaska: The Last Frontier." The show chronicles the family's daily life on a rural Alaskan homestead. Each member of the family is responsible for providing food, shelter or security while subsisting off their land.
Yule and Ruth Kilcher began the homestead in Kachemak Bay, Alaska, after arriving from Switzerland in 1936 and 1941, respectively. The couple have eight children, including Atz and Otto, who live on the homestead with their wives and children. Ruth died in 1997, and Yule in 1998. Atz Kilcher, the couple's oldest, has four children with his wife Bonnie, including pop singer Jewel, who lives in Texas. Atz and Bonnie's son Shane recently returned with his family to live on the homestead. The couple's two youngest children, Atz Lee and Nikos, also live there as of 2015. Otto's son Eivin and his wife Eve live in a cabin that Eivin built.
