Some techniques for painting flowers include creating jagged edges, layering petals, float shading, ruffling edges, pointing edges and making trumpets. Painters aid these techniques with setting up the bouquet, misting flowers and taking some initial pictures. Working with basic shapes of a sphere, cone and oval is also useful.
Painters complete the basic petal shapes mentioned above using a single stroke and then use layering to form them into the flower shapes of sphere, cone and oval. When painting a bouquet, choose two or three blossoms to paint in complete detail and allow the other flowers to act as background.
