How Tall Is the Freedom Tower?

Freedom Tower, also known as One World Trade Center, is 1,776 feet tall, including a 408-foot tall needle on top. Without this spire, the building itself is 1,368 feet tall and has 104 stories.

The tower's two heights both have symbolic meanings. The lower height of 1,368 feet matches the height of the original World Trade Center building that was destroyed in a terrorist attack on Sept. 11, 2001. The building's total height of 1,776 feet matches the year that the United States declared independence from Great Britain.

In 2013, Freedom Tower was ruled the tallest building in the United States. However, later construction projects and fluctuating rules about including spires in height measurements mean that the title is open to debate.
