Sturgis, South Dakota, has hosted the famous Sturgis Motorcycle Rally since it began in 1940. The town sits towards the western edge of South Dakota at the base of the Black Hills. It's an annual event held around the first week in August.
The Sturgis motorcycle rally is both one of the oldest and largest events of its kind on the planet. During most of the year, Sturgis is a small community of around 6,600 residents. However, during the week of the rally, its population usually swells by around a half a million people. The weeklong event features motorcycle shows, races, concerts and exhibitors as well as motorcycle legends in attendance.
