Revolution Radio changed its formatting from jazz to Top 40 in September of 2009. The formatting changed a number of times since the station's inception. For 35 years, from 1959 until 1994, the station played jazz music. It was dubbed as northern California's first and only full time jazz station by a 1965 studio brochure. In 1994 the station switched to Spanish music and from 1999 to 2002, it was a rock format. From 2002 until KREV took to the airwaves in 2009, the station underwent many different formats. These included Spanish music, dance, urban, electronic rock and future jazz.
