Born on Feb. 8, 1931, James Dean was an actor whose career-defining role was as Jim Stark in "Rebel Without a Cause." On Sept. 30, 1955, Dean and his mechanic were driving Dean's Porsche Spyder. A car turned in front of them, causing a head-on collision and Dean's death. Dean received two posthumous Academy Award nominations.
Singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, who was known by her first name, was born on April 16, 1971. She started her music career in a band with her siblings. Selena released several popular albums and won a 1994 Grammy Award for Best Mexican/American Album. Yolanda Saldívar, Selena's agent and friend, shot Selena on March 31, 1995. Selena died from her wounds less than two hours later.
Heath Ledger was born on April 4, 1979. Known for his acting work, Ledger was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor after starring in "Brokeback Mountain." He was found unconscious on Jan. 22, 2008, and pronounced dead several hours later. The autopsy report stated there were several prescription medications in Ledger's system. One of Ledger's last major roles was The Joker in "The Dark Knight," for which he won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
