The Star System dance competition is a regional and national level event held by the Star Systems Talent company. The competition has regionals all around the country for numerous styles of dance and age ranges in which to compete. The winners from the various regional contests are entered into the finals and can compete to win the national title and prizes.
Star Systems is ran by Marcy Tuttle and her son, Casey, who acts as her national director. The dance company does most of its hiring from family or close friends, although some of the employees are also dancers who have been in the business for a long time and know how to run things like the backstage area.
The dance competition website has a long list of rules that are set up to ensure that fair and accurate judging is done for the dancers. The rules list the different rules and dance types allowed for each individual group. The contest allows most types of dance from tap and jazz to hip-hop and acrobatic. Each of these individual types of dance have their own winner. Winners at regional competitions win cash prizes and gift certificates as well as being allowed to move onto the national championship. The time limits for each type of routine are listed in the rules as well so that all dancers are aware of how long their routines need to be.
