As of 2015, American singer, songwriter and member of the band Bread, David Gates has been retired for more than a decade; Gates's career with the band Bread, which began in 1968, had declined in the 1980s, and Gates has been running his California ranch since that time, as noted on The Vocal Group Hall of Fame Foundation's website, VocalGroup.org. Gates toured as David Gates and Bread in the late 1970s. The last substantiated tour of the reunited band members was in 1996 through the fall of 1997.
As of 2015, Gates is the only surviving member of the band Bread. The last substantiated performance was in 2008, and it was a solo event, not necessarily a tour.
In an interview with Super Seventies Rocksite, Gates is quoted as saying that since the beginning of his music career, he liked being behind the scenes rather than on the road touring. Details from the last Bread tour of 1996 can be read online at the website MikeBotts.com, the road diary of the band's drummer, who died in 2005.
Ticketmaster, Ticket Supply and other online ticket sources for concerts and touring events confirm there are no upcoming events featuring Gates. Fans can enter an email address or register at each of the sites to be alerted if events become available.
