The Sycamore Pumpkin Festival, the Haunted Forest and Camp Tuckabatchee Haunted Camp are all events being hosted in various locations throughout Illinois for Halloween, as of 2015. Most major cities in Illinois host events for Halloween, with Chicago hosting the Chicagoween Spooktacular Halloween Fun event and the Halloween Happenings event hosted in Genoa.
The city of Oak Brook, along with its Park District, have hosted the Haunted Forest event since 2003, with thousands of citizens attending each year. The Haunted Forest consists of several attractions such as face painting, stories by the fire and a pumpkin patch. The main attraction, however, is its 13,000 square foot maze that is covered in decorations and meant to frighten.
Ottawa is home to the Camp Tuckabatchee Haunted camp, where families enjoy more wholesome and less frightening attractions, such as pony rides and pumpkin carving. In the same vein of family-friendly activities is the St. Charles Scarecrow Fest held in St. Charles. The event has been around for more than 25 years and been featured on NBC’s Today Show as one of the best fall festivals when it was reviewed in September 2012. The Scarecrow contest continues to be the festivals biggest event, sporting over 150 homemade scarecrows that everyone in attendance can then vote on as the best in various categories.
