Bill Gaither has collaborated on writing more than 700 popular gospel songs, including "Because He Lives," "The King is Coming," and "Loving God, Loving Each Other." Gaither writes music with his wife, Gloria, and together they have gathered eight Grammy awards and more than a dozen Grammy nominations.
Gaither founded the Bill Gaither Trio as a college student in 1956. At the time, his musical career was not lucrative enough to support him financially, so he took on a job as an English teacher. In 1962, he married Gloria Sickal, and the two began writing, performing, recording and publishing music together. After five years balancing full-time teaching jobs and their musical aspirations, they achieved incredible musical success and eventually made music a full-time career in 1967.
As of 2015, Gaither continues to perform with the Bill Gaither Trio and the Gaither Vocal Band. Gaither also founded the Gaither Music Company, co-founded the record label Spring Hill Music Group, and runs a retail center called Gaither Family Resources.
Gaither has been a mentor for many contemporary Christian artists, including Amy Grant, Michael English and Jonathan Pierce, who all toured with the Gaither Music Company. He also organized the incredibly popular Gaither Homecoming Tours, which revived the careers of many major Southern gospel stars.
