What Is a Smart TV?

A smart TV is any television capable of Internet connectivity. Once connected, a smart TV can stream video on demand from providers such as Netflix, Amazon and Hulu, and they can utilize online options that include Web surfing, instant messaging and social networking.

Many high-end and mid-level television models in the current marketplace feature smart TV capabilities. Most of these smart TV models have rear Ethernet ports, which allowing for Internet access by direct connection to a broadband router. Some smart TVs can also connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi using the set's internal hardware or by using an optional USB dongle.
