Celebration! Cinemas was formerly known as Loeks Theaters. The company traces its roots to 1944, when founder Jack Loeks established the Midtown Theatre in downtown Grand Rapids. In 1965, the company opened the first theater megaplex in Wyoming, Michigan. Called Studio 28, the theater initially only had a single theater with 1,000 seats. The cinema expanded several times, and by 1988 it had 20 screens, making it the largest theater in the world at that point. Over the years, Loeks Theaters expanded, and in addition to the indoor locations developed by Loeks, the company also opened and operated a number of drive-in theaters across the state.
