Nicole Curtis, star of "Rehab Addict," grew up in Lake Orion, Michigan, just outside of Detroit. Her family had a garbage business and they restored old furniture. Nicole first became interested in older homes when her great-grandmother's 1890 home was sold by her family.
Nicole Curtis' father is a history enthusiast and he used to drive the family around Detroit and tell them the stories of Detroit's historic neighborhoods. Curtis majored in education in college, but quit just before graduating to start her own cleaning business. Soon after, Curtis became a licensed realtor and began to restore old homes in Minneapolis. She was also involved in an antiques business that helped pay her bills while she restored three old homes.
A production assistant at Magnetic Productions was looking for blond real-estate agents for a new reality show and came across Curtis's real estate website. The production assistant invited her to meet with the company about doing a show and the owner mentioned that the team had recently replaced a kitchen in a 1920s home with modern appliances. When Curtis honestly stated that she preferred restoring old homes rather than making them look modern, the owner was intrigued. Curtis was then given the opportunity to have a camera crew follow her through the restoration of a old home. This later turned into a show called "Rehab Addict" that plays on the DIY and HGTV channels, as of 2015.
