When Was Ruth Spencer Born?

Ruth Spencer was born in 1955 in San Diego, California. The retired broadcast journalist is best known for anchoring the evening news and hosting a consumer report show on the NBC affiliate in Detroit, WDIV-Channel 4.

In July 2015, Spencer announced her retirement after 25 years with WDIV. For 22 years, the Emmy Award-winning journalist investigated consumer issues and complaints on her segment, “Ruth to the Rescue.”

After graduating with honors from San Francisco State University with a degree in broadcast journalism, Spencer worked in six different newsrooms, starting at KPIX in San Francisco. She worked as an assignment editor and field producer before moving on to reporting and anchoring. Spencer was the first female co-anchor at KATV in Little Rock, Arkansas.
