All the stories in Robyn Carr's Thunder Point book series are set in a small town on the Oregon coast. As of September 2015, there are nine books in the romance series, which began in March 2013. Additions to the series are regularly published every March, July and September.
The first book in the series, "The Wanderer," revolves around a newcomer, Hank Cooper, who has inherited property in Thunder Point. He is a returning character from Carr's popular Virgin River series. "The Wanderer" was the best-selling romance novel during its first week on sale. Readers bought almost 48,000 copies that week, and Harlequin, the series' publisher, announced that the initial printing of the book would be 500,000 copies.
"The Wanderer," along with Carr's next two Thunder Point books, "The Newcomer" and "The Hero," appeared on the New York Times best-seller list for mass-market paperbacks. "The Hero" remained on the list for eight weeks. Other books in the series have made the list, as well. Some Thunder Point books are also available as e-books.
Carr created Thunder Point to represent a quiet, ordinary town. The books typically focus on friends and family, and diversity is embraced. In the September 2015 book "Wildest Dreams," a professional athlete comes to town to train, but romance proves to be a distraction.
