Rene Angelil is a singer and manager who is married to Celine Dion, as of 2015. He was born on Jan. 6, 1942, in Montreal, Québec. Angelil, who is of Lebanese and Syrian descent, graduated from College André-Grasset. As a pop singer, he co-founded pop rock group The Baronets, along with Jean Beaulne and Pierre Labelle.
Angelil met Dion when she was 12 years old. The couple, who married in 1994, has three children. Angelil was previously married to Denyse Duquette from 1966 to 1972 and has one son from the marriage. He was also married to Anne Renée from 1974 to 1980, and has two children with her.
Angelil was falsely accused of sexual assault and rape in 2001. He is an avid poker player who has played in numerous tournaments, including the 2005 World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions and the 2007 Mirage Poker Showdown.
Angelil has twice been diagnosed with throat cancer. He was first diagnosed in 1998, at which time he underwent a surgery. After he recovered from the surgery, he was featured in Simple Plan’s video “Save You.” He was again diagnosed in 2013. Dion announced in September 2015 that Angelil's cancer was terminal and that he only had few weeks to live.
