The Accelerated Reading BookFinder site, ARBookFind.com, makes it easy for parents and teachers to find suitable reading materials for their children and students from kindergarten through 12th grade. The site provides all the information needed to find a particular book at a local public or school library.
The AR BookFinder also incorporates links to Amazon.com to enable parents and teachers to purchase books that are not available at their local libraries. AR was developed in 1984 by Judi Paul as a way to motivate and encourage children to challenge themselves to read more difficult books. The site enables searching by book title, author's name, topic, age level, fiction or non-fiction. The site also offers selections for Spanish speaking students.
In addition to helping to find books, the AR BookFinder also offers reading quizzes and assessments to ensure comprehension. Reading practice quizzes measure basic understanding of the story and characters and usually consist of five to 20 multiple choice questions. Literacy skills quizzes are designed to give teachers more detailed information about multiple aspects of a student's reading comprehension. This enables teachers to better prepare their students for standardized testing. Vocabulary practice quizzes measure a student's understanding of words found in past reading and tests his or her ability to learn new words.
