Forbes Magazine offers an annual list of The World’s Highest Paid Soccer Players, along with information about their salaries. FourFourTwo, the world’s number one football magazine, also offers a ranked annual list of the Best 100 Football Players in the World.
Forbes Magazine is worldwide leader on business news, and it has a section devoted to the business of sports. “The World’s Highest-Paid Soccer Players” comes out once per year, ranking the players according to salary. In 2014, the highest-paid was Cristiano Ronaldo, with $73 million in salary, bonuses and endorsement income. “Football clubs are generally focused on winning matches rather than maximising [sic] profit, and there is a clear correlation between wage bill and on field success,” said Dan Jones, a partner in the Sports Business Group at Deloitte. Lionel Messi finished second on last year’s list, with $65 million, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic was third.
FourFourTwo, published in the U.K., offers a yearly ranked list of players, determined by votes from a panel of experts after much discussion. In December 2014, it voted Cristiano Ronaldo number one for his role in Real Madrid’s championship. Philipp Lahm of Bayern Munich was voted number two and Lionel Messi of Barcelona number three.
