Some popular funny songs include "Eat It," "Like a Surgeon" and "Smells Like Nirvana," which are all parodies of hit songs written and performed by "Weird Al" Yankovic. The singer/songwriter cleverly reworks the lyrics of Michael Jackson's "Beat It" in his song "Eat It" and transforms Madonna's "Like a Virgin" into "Like a Surgeon." Weird Al turns Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" into "Smells Like Nirvana."
Parody rock band The Lonely Island is also responsible for numerous popular comedy tunes. The group, consisting of comedy performers Akiva Schaffer, Andy Samberg and Jorma Taccone, released three albums: 2009's "Incredibad," the 2011 offering "Turtleneck & Chain" and 2013's "The Wack Album."
The trio was prominently featured on "Saturday Night Live" from 2005 until 2010. During that time, many The Lonely Island tunes were big hits on the show, and afterward went on to become viral sensations online. "Lazy Sunday," a rap spoof about two buddies trying to make it to a "Chronicles of Narnia" matinee, was an immediate hit on television and an even greater sensation on the Internet.
The success of "Lazy Sunday" paved the way for a slew of subsequent The Lonely Island tunes, all of which met with similar success on-the-air and online. Racy, ridiculous songs such as "Jack Sparrow," featuring Michael Bolton, pumped eccentric new energy into “Saturday Night Live" upon their debut.
