As of 2015, some of the most popular female vocalists include the country-pop singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, pop singer Katy Perry, British vocalist Adele, Barbadian R&B star Rihanna and the ex-Destiny's Child member Beyonce. Perhaps the most popular female artist of all time is the American "Queen of Pop," Madonna.
The popularity of these female vocalists can be seen through their achievements and sales. Taylor Swift's fifth album "1989" became the best-selling album of 2014, beating the soundtrack to the movie "Frozen" to the top spot.
Katy Perry is one of only two artists to reach number one with five different singles from the same album, her 2010 smash hit "Teenage Dream". "Teenage Dream" was nominated for six Grammy awards, including Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album.
Adele's sophomore album "21" was the best-selling album in both 2011 and 2012, selling an estimated 30 million copies worldwide. She also won both a Grammy and an Oscar for "Skyfall", the theme song to the James Bond movie of the same name.
The Guinness Book of World Records recognizes Madonna, with 300 million records sold worldwide, as the best-selling female artist of all time and the fourth best-selling artist overall.
