The plot of the movie "Pure Country" centers around country music star Dusty Chandler, who has become disillusioned with his fame. He decides to return to his small hometown to get back to the authentic lifestyle and music of his earlier years.
In "Pure Country," main character Dusty Chandler is played by George Strait. Chandler feels that his fame and high-tech stage shows are overshadowing his authentic musical talent, which leads him to leave his life as a star in Nashville on short notice. Chandler shows up in his childhood hometown and stays on a struggling ranch where nobody recognizes him. He eventually falls in love with the ranch owner's daughter, Harley, played by Isabel Glasser.
In the meantime, Chandler's manager Lula, played by Lesley Ann Warren, has replaced him with an impersonator who lip-syncs his songs on stage. When he finds out, Chandler returns to the stage after demanding that he be allowed to play on his own terms. With Harley and her family in the front row, Chandler sits on the stage's edge and performs a love song written for her. In this performance, he uses an acoustic guitar and the theatrics of his earlier shows are absent.
