"Maximum Carnage" follows Carnage, the product of supervillain Venom, as he escapes imprisonment from the Ravencroft Asylum to assemble a group of Spider-Man’s enemies for a slaughter spree. To thwart these adversaries, Spider-Man pieces together his own band of beings with superpowers, including Cloak and Dagger, Firestar, Deathlok, Black Cat and Captain America. In an unexpected plot twist, Venom teams up with Spider-Man to stop his spawn, Carnage, from wreaking havoc with Carrion, Demogoblin, Doppelganger and Shriek.
Set in New York City, the home of Spider-Man, the "Maximum Carnage" comic introduces Captain America and Stark Industries to the web-slinger for the first time. Stark Industries, the company owned by Iron Man, helps Spider-Man by giving him a device that emits overwhelming feelings of love and peace to stop the villains. Although Carnage is immune to the full effects of the device, it leaves him weak enough for Venom to incapacitate him. In the end, Venom beats Carnage unconscious and leaves him behind to be imprisoned again.
"Maximum Carnage" consists of 14 parts, which were compiled into a single paperback volume as a Marvel Comics crossover in 1994. A fully illustrated, revised edition of the complete comic was published in 2005.
