The owners of Rustavi 2 TV are the Karamanishvili brothers, Giorgi and Levan, as of 2015. They own 51 percent of the shares in Rustavi 2 indirectly through their fully owned TV Company Georgia and an additional 40 percent of the station directly.
The brothers, who are little-known by the Georgian public, are close allies of Georgia's former president, Mikheil Saakashvili. A court battle is underway between the station's current owners and its former owner, Kibar Khalvashi, who cited coercion in his decision to sell his shares back in 2006. Kibar is seeking to reclaim his shares in Rustavi 2 TV; the case is currently in the Georgia Court of Appeals.
