Some of Oprah Winfrey’s charities include the Oprah Winfrey Charitable Foundation and the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls. As one of the wealthiest media personalities in the United States, Winfrey has used a significant portion of her fortune to found charitable organizations.
Winfrey founded the organization Oprah’s Angel Network in 1998 to support other charitable organization and nonprofits around the world. The organization raised over $80 million before ceasing operations in 2010 and re-emerging as the Oprah Winfrey Charitable Foundation.
Located in South Africa, the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls opened in 2007, funded by viewer donations and a $40 million investment from Winfrey herself. The free school offers state-of-the-art facilities, including a library, a theater and computer labs.
