Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen is a popular Vietnamese-American singer, actress and television personality. She is one of the hosts of "Paris by Night," a variety television show geared toward members of the Vietnamese diaspora.
Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen is the daughter of former South Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Cao Ky. Nguyen was born in Saigon, but her family relocated to the United States after the seizure of Saigon by the North Vietnamese in 1975. Ky Duyen grew up in Virginia and Southern California. She attended the California State Polytechnic Institute and began recording music and performing publicly in the mid-1980s. She began her tenure as Master of Ceremonies on "Paris by Night" in the 1990s and appeared in the Robert Hyatt film "Lost Paradise" in 1993. In addition to her position on "Paris by Night," Ky Duyen performs live in Las Vegas. She also holds a law degree from Western State University College of Law.
In 2004, Ky Duyen fell under scrutiny for her familial ties. Her father, former Prime Minister Nguyen Cao Ky, angered the Vietnamese expatriate community after attempting to make amends with Vietnam's current government. There was consequently a motion to oust Ky Duyen from her role as Master of Ceremonies.
