As of March 2015, the exact dates and location of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations have not been scheduled, although previous events were held in mid-January through early February. The qualifiers will be held on June 8 through June 16, 2015.
The 2017 African Cup of Nations qualification process will begin with a total of 52 teams broken up by fours into 13 groups. The winners and two best runners-up of these groups will engage in preliminary rounds to eliminate 19 further teams. From there, five groups of four teams each will play off, and the winners of each group will qualify for the 2018 World Cup. Four countries maintain bids to host the African Cup of Nations, and the Confederation of African Football will announce its decision in April 2015.
